Alternate for DXL

Hi All,
I knew DOORS is a proprietary DB and DXL only can read the falt file, I would like to know the alternate technology to interact with DOORS. Did anyone research (or) any API's? Can we use any other language to interact with DOORS? (or) Can I query (using some language) to get DOORS data instead of using DXL?
Please advice.

There really is no alternative to DXL.
No other language has the built-in types required to handle doors data.

Even if you wrap some other language around it using the API, you still need to write the DXL underneath, doubling the effort required.
